Horsfall Joins NorthWestern Corporation Board of Directors

Apr 27, 2015

Sioux Falls, S.D. – April 24, 2015 – NorthWestern Corporation d/b/a NorthWestern Energy (NYSE:NWE) has announced that Jan Horsfall, an experienced corporate executive and entrepreneur, has joined the company’s board of directors as an independent representative.

“We are delighted to have Jan join our Board,” said CEO Bob Rowe.  “He brings a passion for customers and sophistication about the opportunities of technology. He’s spent time with employees from around the company, as well as with the other directors, and is already asking great questions and making insightful observations.”

Horsfall, who lives in Colorado Springs, CO, is President and CEO of Maxletics Corporation, an amateur sports technology and media company focused on bringing down the cost of amateur athletics for families. From 2012-2014, Horsfall was CEO of Universal Lubricants, a privately held environmental energy company, where he was credited with significantly boosting profits and leading a company wide turnaround.

Horsfall’s resume includes a senior executive role at online gaming company Turbine Inc., which was restructured and sold to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in 2010, as well as senior marketing roles at Lycos, the search engine/portal, and The Valvoline Company, one of the top automotive supply companies in the U.S.

He has a strong record of entrepreneurial promotion and leadership. Horsfall was the founder and co-chairman of Startup Colorado, where he worked with early-stage technology companies to boost the depth and breadth of entrepreneurial activity in the state. He also served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Colorado State University’s College of Business, where he also sat on the Global Leadership Council board.

Horsfall holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University. He also earned an Executive Certificate from Indiana University.

With the addition of Horsfall, the NorthWestern board has eight members, with backgrounds ranging from utility leadership and regulation to banking, government, consumer marketing and technology.

“We are proud of our independent and highly engaged board of directors,” said Rowe. “They clearly are focused on customers and employees as well as shareholders. Jan will further strengthen a great board with his business background, wide experience and great energy.”
