Rock Slide Damages Road, Limits Access to Madison Hydro Plant

Apr 18, 2016

Butte, Mont. – April 18, 2016 – A rock fall has led to damage to a road used to reach the Madison Hydroelectric Plant, temporarily limiting public access to the area near Ennis.

On Sunday, April 17, a rock fall punctured a flow line that serves the hydroelectric dam. A leak in the flow line caused by the rock damage washed out the road below the line, causing the road to be closed out of concern for public safety.

Road repairs are under way but the road may not open to the public until Tuesday, April 19. Beyond that, intermittent road closures may be needed in the next few weeks to safely repair the damaged flow line.

There were no injuries to the public or NorthWestern employees as a result of the rock fall.
