NorthWestern Energy Contributes $10,000 to Support Butte YMCA Aquatic Center Boiler Replacement

Date: Aug 10, 2026

TYPE: News

Butte, Mont. – Aug. 10, 2026– NorthWestern Energy contributed $10,000 to the Butte Family YMCA's community fundraising effort that helped restore the Simperman Corette Aquatic Center following a major boiler failure earlier this year.

The aquatic center reopened in late May after a 10-week closure required to complete the emergency replacement of failed pool-warming boilers, a project that cost more than $150,000.

"The response to this challenge showed what makes Butte such a special community," said NorthWestern Energy Vice President of Operations Jason Merkel. "When the YMCA faced an unexpected and costly repair, businesses, organizations and individuals stepped up to help. We're honored to contribute alongside so many others to support a facility that provides opportunities for recreation, fitness, learning and connection for people of all ages."

"We are grateful for the support of NorthWestern Energy and the many businesses, organizations and individuals who helped make this project possible," said Stephanie Feist, Butte Family YMCA. "This was a significant challenge for our YMCA, but the community came together to ensure our pools could reopen and continue serving thousands of people each year."

NorthWestern Energy is proud to join other businesses, organizations and individuals in supporting the restoration of an important community resource that serves people of all ages throughout the Butte area.
