A combination of $22,426 from NorthWestern Energy and $410,896 from the Missouri-Madison River Fund will be combined with $773,439 from agency and project partners to complete projects totaling more than $1.2 million. NorthWestern Energy will supplement these funds by contributing an additional $569,487 to state, federal, and local agencies for operation and maintenance efforts at many existing recreation sites in 2025.

The centers will be served as part of NorthWestern Energy’s regulated business, which is expected to lower the cost per customer to operate NorthWestern’s Montana generation resources. The energy service load is expected to be a minimum 50 megawatts, beginning in 2027, with growth to 250 megawatts or more by 2029.

Some statements being made this campaign season about NorthWestern Energy and Montana property taxes are flat out wrong and misleading.
It’s important to know the facts.
In Montana, NorthWestern Energy is the largest single property taxpayer in the state by a significant amount. Residential property taxpayers contribute the largest amount, as a group, of property taxes in Montana.
Property taxes are a flow through expense on NorthWestern Energy customer bills – which means if they go up, customer bills go up and if they go down, customer bills go down.
