Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch receives $31,346.50 in energy efficiency incentives from NorthWestern Energy

Date: May 2, 2022

Billings, Mont. – May 2, 2022 — The Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch is receiving $31,346.50 in energy efficient lighting rebates from NorthWestern Energy’s Efficiency Plus Programs (E+ Programs) for an extensive energy efficient LED lighting project  YBGR is a trusted local and national leader in the field of mental health care for children and their families. YBGR, a nonprofit founded in 1957, provides residential and community-based care and treatment for emotionally troubled youth, and K-12 education at the Yellowstone Academy in Billings. YBGR also provides community based services throughout the state.

This energy efficient lighting project involved the installation of more than 2,400 LED fixtures and lamps.  This project is estimated to save YBGR 349,024 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, and result in an electric cost savings to YBGR of $26,428 per year based on today’s electric rates. This project not only reduces energy usage, but will reduce operating and maintenance costs, while improving the lighting quality in YBGR buildings.

From 2019 to 2021, YBRG installed an additional 1,497 LED lighting fixtures and tubes. Those projects resulted in $18,487.92 in NorthWestern’s E+ Program rebates, saving 212,630 kWh/year, and resulted in an estimated $16,100 in annual electric cost savings. Combined, from 2019 to 2022, YBGR has received $49,834.42 in NorthWestern’s E+ Program rebates, saving 561,655 kWh/year, resulting in an estimated $42,529 in annual electric cost savings.

The project team was composed of YBGR staff and foundation, NorthWestern Energy representatives, and consultants working together to identify energy savings for the YBGR.  The project implementation team included Curtis Lord, Director of Physical Plant at YBGR; Alan Anseth, Cushing Terrell, NorthWestern’s E+ Implementation Contractor; Ace Electric; and Justin Hyatt, DNV.  These lighting projects were initiated several years ago with assistance of YBGR’s Foundation in securing several funding sources in addition to the NorthWestern E+ Rebates.  Jani McCall, Consulting with Communities, secured a grant from M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, and a grant from the Alice Lee Lund Foundation was secured by Jim Soft, YBGR Foundation.  Matching funds from the YBGR Foundation and YBGR also supported the project.

“As a nonprofit organization, NorthWestern Energy commends YBGR for making the investment in energy efficiency, which will lead to reduced operation costs. YBGR has demonstrated leadership in energy management, by looking for opportunities to save energy, and participating in our energy efficiency rebates,” said Deborah Singer, NorthWestern Energy’s Senior Key Account and Economic Development Specialist.

NorthWestern Energy has been offering energy efficiency programs for almost 40 years and provides thousands of incentives through the E+ Efficiency Plus programs for commercial customers.  For a complete listing of programs go to www.NorthWesternEnergy.com/Eplus.
