NorthWestern Energy serves 337 communities in Montana, South Dakota and Yellowstone National Park with safe and reliable electricity. We serve natural gas to 202 communities in Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska.

We serve gas and electric to customers in the western two-thirds of Montana and eastern South Dakota. We also have gas service in Nebraska and serve electricity to Yellowstone National Park.
NorthWestern owns and operates a diverse generation fleet of wind, water, natural gas and coal-fired resources and the high-voltage electric transmission system and distribution system. We also own and operate natural gas production, transmission and distribution systems.

Our Hydro Facilities
Our carbon-free hydro system is the foundation of our energy generation portfolio in Montana. In 2024, nearly 34% of our electricity for Montana customers came from our hydro facilities.

Billings, Mont. – March 5, 2025 – NorthWestern Energy invites you to “Make a Basket, Make a Difference” during the Billings Spring Home Improvement Show, March 7 - 9, at Metra Park to raise money for Big Sky Senior Services.
Visit NorthWestern Energy’s booth in Expo Park and try your hand at the pop-a-shot basketball game. For every basket made, NorthWestern Energy will donate $1 to Big Sky Senior Services.
“Come by our booth, show off your skills, and help raise money for a wonderful organization that supports our seniors,” said Molly Schwend, a member of NorthWestern Energy’s Community Relations Team. “It’s free to play, and NorthWestern Energy is proud to support Big Sky Senior Services.”
Big Sky Senior Services, based in Billings, provides services that promote independence, enhance quality of life for seniors and prevent elder abuse.
"We’re grateful for NorthWestern Energy’s support in helping us to keep seniors living independently, maintaining their quality of life, and staying safe from abuse,” said Big Sky Senior Services Executive Director Tyler Amundson. “We could not do this work without great community partners."
