NorthWestern Energy Invites Public to Erin Madison’s Book Reading at Bridger Raptor Fest

Date: Sep 30, 2025

TYPE: News

Bozeman, Mont. – Sept. 30, 2025 – NorthWestern Energy invites the public to a special book reading by author Erin Madison at the Bridger Raptor Fest, held at the scenic Bridger Bowl Ski Area.

Join her for a live reading of her children’s book, Oliver the Osprey, which follows the journey of Oliver, an osprey who hatched in a nest on a specially designed platform installed by NorthWestern Energy along the Missouri River in Montana. The book takes young readers on an exciting, fact-filled adventure through the history and conservation of this majestic bird of prey.

Event Details:

Location: Saddle Peak Lodge, 3rd Floor, Bridger Bowl Ski Area

Date: Oct. 4 and Oct. 5

Time: 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 to 2:45 p.m.

Erin Madison will sign copies of Oliver the Osprey, available for free at the event while supplies last.

NorthWestern Energy developed Oliver the Osprey as part of its Avian Protection Plan (APP), which incorporates best practices from the Avian Power Line Interaction Committee—a collaboration among the Edison Electric Institute, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and member utilities. The APP aims to reduce bird injuries and mortalities from power line collisions and electrocutions.

Ospreys, once nearly wiped out in parts of the U.S. due to DDT, have made a strong comeback. However, they still face threats, including entanglement in baling twine. The book teaches young readers how nesting platforms help protect ospreys and how they can contribute to conservation efforts.

The Bridger Raptor Festival is an annual event held in early October in and around Bozeman, Mont. The festival, which is free to the public, centers around the largest known Golden Eagle migration in the United States. Since 1991 a raptor migration count has taken place every fall at the Bridger Bowl ski area in the Gallatin National Forest just north of Bozeman. Festival activities center around raptor viewing and include nature walks and talks, educational and entertaining programs and activities for people of all ages.
