Increased reliability

NorthWestern Energy’s $7.8 million new Chamberlain switchyard project was completed in 2023 and helped increase capacity to provide reliable service for our customers in the Chamberlain area.

NorthWestern Energy worked jointly with East River Electric Cooperative and Central Electric Cooperative. The new switchyard and East River’s new substation are located on 10 acres southeast of the City of Chamberlain near the intersection of 249th Street and 345th Avenue.

The new infrastructure increases reliability and provides uniformity on the transmission system that serves customers in the area through the joint effort of NorthWestern Energy and East River Cooperative.
